Abilities In Motion

AIM is a leader throughout the community on the issues of consumer choice and control, and is one of 18 Centers for Independent Living (CIL) in Pennsylvania.

The mission of AIM is to help people determine their own individual lifestyle, based on personal choice, from a wide spectrum of acceptable alternatives.

AIM supports the philosophy of Independent Living through its concepts that are being proven daily by more and more people with disabilities as they choose to assume the responsibilities of directing their own lives by becoming active, contributing participants in the mainstream of their communities.

As a Center for Independent Living, AIM provides: Information and Referral, Peer Counseling, Independent Living Skills Training, and System Advocacy Change.

Other services include; Attendant Care for people ages 18-59, Personal Assistance Service for people age 60 and older, Nursing Home Transition(bringing people back home into their community), Agency with Choice, Fiscal Management Services, Ticket to Work, Teens Taking Flight and Home Modifications.

All materials are "readily available" in both English & Spanish, and interpretive services are available upon request.

The AIM Board of Directors are comprised primarily by people with disabilities, and is funded by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, PA Department of Labor & Industry.

Area Agency on Aging

The Lebanon County Area Agency on Aging operates six Senior Community Centers and provides a range of Home and Community Based services and programs to maximize individual functioning and optimal quality of life for all seniors in Lebanon County. Services are provided for consumers 60 years of age and over. Some programs available include: Information and Referral, Home Support, In-Home Personal Care services, Adult Day Services, Meals on Wheels, Nursing Home Transition and Family Caregiver Support Program, the Aging Waiver program, Level of Care determinations, LTC Ombudsman and Protective Services. Programs are accessed through referral and coordinated through assessment. Programs may be on a cost share basis, donation basis, or for Aging Waiver – Medical Assistance funded, as the consumer is deemed eligible. Emphasis is placed on prevention of unnecessary and inappropriate institutionalization of older persons. The Protective Services unit will investigate reports of persons who may be at risk for neglect, abuse, exploitation or abandonment.

The Apprise program is a source of assistance to seniors, or persons with Disabilities, who are on Medicare, and who need help to navigate insurance enrollments, insurance changes and prescription drug plans.

The Area Agency on Aging also is a source of dissemination and assistance to seniors with current Pennsylvania Department of Aging and Office of Long Term Living initiatives.

Disability Empowerment Center

The Disability Empowerment Center (DEC) was founded on the principles of the independent living philosophy and its purpose is to ensure and advance the rights of persons with diverse disabilities in order for them to maintain a full independent lifestyle, free from all barriers and to support them to achieve their individually established goals. All supports are consumer designed, person directed, and community based, thereby empowering each person to have control over his/her life and live the life they have chosen for themselves.

As the Center for Independent Living serving Lebanon and Lancaster Counties, DEC focuses on advocacy, information and referral, life skills training and peer mentoring and related services providing training opportunities to consumers as related to their disability or desired life plan.

DEC is funded by grants from the US Department of Education.

United Disabilities Services

United Disabilities Services (UDS) is a non-profit organization based in Lancaster, PA for the past 40 years. UDS has been committed to helping people with disabilities, including veterans and the elderly, lead more independent and fulfilling lives. UDS serves people with disabilities throughout 30 counties in Pennsylvania and beyond. UDS is recognized as one of the leading human services providers in Pennsylvania. We’re proud to have been recognized with the Samaritan Counseling Center’s 2008 Ethics in Business Award. UDS personal care divisions are certified medical assistance providers and are licensed by the State of Pennsylvania, and UDS Accessible Home Modifications has been accepted as a builder in the Department of Veterans Affairs Home Loan Guaranty Program.

UDS is home to the Independent Living Resource Center, where you can connect with a care manager who will help locate and coordinate programs, services and supports for your unique situation and needs. We also have many programs to assist individuals with independent living including: In-Home Personal Care, Accessible Home Modifications, Home Medical Equipment, Adult Enrichment, Care Management, Custom Wheelchair Seating, Employment Services, Transition School, Service Dogs and Youth Sports and Recreation.
